Olan Mills latest firm to enter administration
by Kay Murchie
Britain’s largest studio photography group, Olan Mills, has collapsed and said it is to appoint an administrator.
The group, which is based in Northampton, specialises in family portraits and ceased trading on Boxing Day.
Studio sessions have to be paid for in advance so customers will have to apply for a refund via the administrator, however refunds are not guaranteed.
The company also said that gift vouchers cannot be redeemed and are no longer valid. However, customers who have already purchased photographs may still receive them.
A statement on its website said the company is ‘endeavouring‘ to fulfil all outstanding orders, which would be posted direct to home addresses in January.
Two years ago, the company collapsed but was rescued by a management buyout. The group has 34 studios in England and Wales, half of which are operated out of Mothercare stores.
Hundreds of jobs will be lost as a result of the collapse and adds to the job losses mounting up over the Christmas period.
Yesterday, Scottish-based fashion clothing retailer USC was placed into administration, while childrenswear retailer, Adams, applied for administration.
On Christmas Eve the music and games retailer, Zavvi, entered administration.
Experts are warning that a dozen more retailers could go bust in the New Year.
