Crude oil, metals prices see more gains

Crude oil, metals prices see more gains

Crude oil prices were higher again on Thursday.

April contracts for West Texas Intermediate crude ended up 34 cents to $110.26 per barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange after peaking at a new high of $111 per barrel earlier, while Brent crude for April delivery was $1.12 higher to $107.39 after rising to $107.88 earlier in the session.

Nymex April gasoline dropped 5 cents to $2.68 per gallon while April heating oil gained 5 cents to $3.01 per gallon and May natural gas added 22 cents to $10.30 per million British thermal units.

Precious metals prices were higher on Thursday.

April gold added $13.30 to $993.80 per troy ounce after rising to $1,001.50 per troy ounce earlier in the session while May silver was up 43 cents to $20.42 per troy ounce and April platinum jumped $27.50 to $2,097.50 per troy ounce.

In base metals, May copper traded virtually even at $3.83 per pound in New York as three-month copper added $15 to $8,415 per tonne in London.

Grains prices were mixed on the Chicago Board of Trade.

CBOT May soybeans were 7.75 cents higher to $14.02 per bushel as demand for US supplies expanded with the falling dollar, while May corn added 2.25 cents to $5.69 per bushel.

However, CBOT May wheat was down 38 cents to $12.44 on declining demand after recent peaks in prices.
