Crude, grains see advances; metals prices mixed

Crude oil prices hit yet another record high on Tuesday when it rose to $109.72 per barrel in New York.

April contracts for West Texas Intermediate crude added 86 cents $108.76 per barrel by the close of floor trade on the New York Mercantile Exchange, while Brent crude was up $1.02 to $105.18 per barrel on the ICE Futures Europe exchange in London after going as high as $105.82 earlier in the session.

Nymex April gasoline and heating oil each were down 1 cent, to $2.70 per gallon and $2.97 per gallon respectively, while April heating oil dropped 4 cents to $9.98 per million British thermal units.

Metals prices were mixed on Tuesday.

After adding almost 7 cents per pound early in the session, May copper ended 1 cent lower to trade at $3.79 per pound near the end of floor trade in New York, while three-month copper in London was also higher early before ending the session down $35 to $8,275 per tonne.

Zinc droped $20 to $2,550 while aluminium fell $73 to $3,065; and nickel ended the session at $31,500 per tonne.

Tin added $200 to $19,250/$19,300 per tonne while lead added $35 to $3,035 per tonne.

Among precious metals, April gold had added $4.20 to $976 per troy ounce by near the close of floor trade in New York, while April platinum added $13.30 to $2,052.40 per troy ounce but May silver dropped 2 cents to $19.76 per troy ounce.

Grains prices were higher on the session, with May soybeans on the Chicago Board of Trade up 1.25 cents to $14.07 per bushel as CBOT May corn was 6.75 cents higher to $5.71 per bushel and May wheat jumped 60 cents to $12.23 per bushel.
