Skoda advert boosts The Cake Bake Company

Following the success of the Skoda advert, The Cake Bake Company’s cakes will be permanently available on supermarket Morrisons’ shelves from January 29, with lemon dream and carrot cakes for sale through the supermarket under the the Cake Bake Company brand.

Sharon Goodyer of The Cake Bake Company said the Skoda advert gave them incredible brand recognition. The company produced a victoria sponge that was sold through a limited promotion with Morrisons under the label ‘The cake that built the car’.

The company built a full-sized motor car from sponge cake and icing for Skoda and was filmed at Shepperton Studios and has been broadcast across Europe. The cake took 8 people 10 days to make. The chassis is seen being built up with sponges, the moulded parts of the bodywork are made with a mixture of Rice Krispies. The headlight covers are made from glacier mints, the brake lights from red jelly. The engine and wing mirrors are marzipan.

Following its launch of cakes at Morrisons, the company is planning to export its products throughout Spain, Italy and Poland by the middle of 2008.

The company was established 2 years ago as a kitchen table hobby for Sharon and her partner Martin Major. After a short while, Sharon bought a larger table and a bigger oven for her kitchen and in May 2005, the company moved into a stand-alone business unit.

The Cake Bake Company is now based in a 15,000 square foot factory in Swanscombe in Kent and where 20 full-time staff are employed.

Last year, the business turned over £1 million and is on target to turn over £2 million in 2008.
