Tony Blair Finds Part Time Job
by Stewart Douglas
Tony Blair has today accepted a position with leading US investment bank JP Morgan, agreeing on a part time contract to provide advisory and consultancy services to the board of directors on certain political and strategic matters.
The former Prime Minister was today announced to have accepted the job offer, which analysts have suggested could be pocketing Mr Blair $1million in salary - not bad for a part time post. Having stepped out of the limelight seven months ago, Tony Blair has also been involved in diplomatic efforts with a UN post recognising his strengths shown in achieving peace in Northern Ireland.
The position is the latest in a line of former world leaders in employment at the very top of the investment industry, with George H W Bush and John Major both currently holding similar advisory roles for their political experience and strategic management abilities.
Despite the fact that neither side to the deal has disclosed the financial incentive, industry insiders estimate that the figure could realistically come in at just under $1 million, around £500,000. Nevertheless it is thought that Mr Blair’s 10 years experience in Downing Street will be a great asset to the political and strategic management of the organisation.
Meanwhile Tony Blair had revealed to national press that he intended to take up a number of part time roles in commerce, to fuel his passion for business and to reflect the extent of his expertise in management and crisis handling.
It remains to be seen whether Mr Blair will justify his $1 million/year price tag, and whether the decision to appoint the former premier was a valuable one.
