Strong trading at Amazon

Amazon.com said customers ordered over 5.4 million items on December 10, the online retailer’s busiest day. Last year, its busiest day was December 11 when 4 million items were ordered.
Brian McBride of Amazon said the 2007 holiday season was the strongest since the firm started trading in 1994. This shows the increased confidence that consumers have in Amazon.
Best sellers at the online retailer included Nintendo’s Wii video game system, satellite navigation devices and high-definition TVs.
The Bourne Ultimatum, the blockbuster movie, was Amazon’s best-selling UK DVD, followed closely by Shrek The Third and The Simpsons Movie.
In US trading yesterday, shares in the company increased more than 2% following the news.
Amazon.com was one of the first companies to sell merchandise over the internet. The company was founded by Jeff Bezos in 1994 and started out as an online book retailer but soon branched out into Video’s, DVD’s, CD’s, MP3 players, computer software, electronics, video games, furniture, food and children’s toys.
