Rolls Royce Post Significant Engine Order

Engine and car manufacturer Rolls Royce has today announced it has secured an order worth almost £400 million with aeroplane leasing firm International Lease Finance, in a move that will see it produce 40 of its Trent XWB engines over the coming seven years.

The move sees the manufacturer secure its place in the aeroplan engine industry, which will see it provide the engines for the finance group’s 20 additional Airbus A350 aircraft to be launched over the coming decade in order to meet rising passenger demand.

The news comes just hours after parent company BMW announced it had seen weaker than expected earnings over the third quarter, which will almost certainly have a knock on effect on performance at the German luxury car manufacturer over the coming quarter, and the next few years.

The move will take ILF’s fleet up to 81 planes specifically with Rolls Royce engines, as it looks to increase its supply of aircraft to some of the world’s most notable airlines over the coming decade.

Speaking today on the contract, ILF said they were optimistic about the future of their supply business, with a view to increasing their long term partnership with Rolls Royce over the foreseeable future.

Meanwhile Rolls Royce executive Sir John Rose said that this significant order would help ensure the commercial viability of the firm’s engine manufacturing business over the coming years, and would help it further grow its position within the industry as a leading supplier of quality, reliable technology.

It remains to be seen whether Rolls Royce can build on its business over the coming mon the coming months in light of this substantial order, and whether parent BMW will realise an increase in profitability as a result over the next quarter.
