Toyota Beats Ford In US Car Sales
by Stewart Douglas
Japanese car manufacturer Toyota has sold more units in the US domestic market than Ford over the last period, reflecting a fundamental shift in consumer values and further problems for the troubled US car manufacturing market.
The Japan-based practical car manufacturer actually surpassed its US-based competitor in US market sales over the last month, taking a staggering 197,592 sales, little over 4,000 beyond Ford sales over the same period.
The news marks the best ever placing in US sales charts for the Japanese manufacturer that has been experiencing strong growth the world over for the last decade or so in the manufacture and supply of automobiles.
However the news is yet another thorn in the side for the US car industry, which seems to be falling short on attracting the same level of customers as it has previously commanded, losing out to foreign imports benefiting from skilled, low cost labour.
Ford defended its position by suggesting that certain unprofitable aspects of its business were concealing the true level of demand for its automobiles on the domestic, and the global car marketplace.
US exports have been up in recent times as a result of the weakened dollar value, which has no doubt helped Ford ensure sales in the international side of its business.
However that’s done nothing to prevent the Japanese brand from stealing marketshare as it continues to promote its practical, affordable and reliable alternative choice.
Overall the US car market has been a victim of the credit crunch environment, and the sub-prime fallout which has left many ordinary customers feeling the pinch on their purse strings, as with all consumer spending in recent months.
Meanwhile shares in Toyota were today trading strongly as a result of its perceived turnaround in the market which marks the end of a trend of declining sales for Toyota in the region.
