Marks & Spencer – temporary staff for Christmas

In the build-up to the Christmas period, Marks & Spencer is appointing 18,000 temporary staff in Britain and Ireland as part of a nationwide recruitment drive.

Marks and Spencer’s Retail Director, Guy Farrant, commented that the group wants its customers to have a great shopping experience. A warm welcome will be provided in each of its stores and customers can be assured that they will find exactly what they need in order to celebrate Christmas in style.

The retailer is offering an excellent remuneration package with all new employees receiving a 2-day induction training session and on-the-job coaching so that they are fully-equipped to ensure that customers receive the best possible service.

Christmas recruitment commenced in September in some stores and the majority of contracts will end in December or January. Applicants must be prepared to work a minimum of 16 hours a week and work evenings, weekends and bank holidays.

In 1998, Marks & Spencer became the first British retailer to make a profit before tax of over £1 billion. However, a few years later, the group was in crisis which lasted for many years. The retailer is growing again during 2007 and hopes to become the UK’s Best & No 1 Retailer.
