Ford To Offload Jaguar And Land Rover Brands
by Stewart Douglas
Ford Motors have today announced they would be prepared to sell off both their Land Rover and Jaguar brands over the course of the next two months, to one singular predator currently in advanced talks with the company.
The announcement from Ford Europe suggested that Ford is poised to sell their Land Rover and Jaguar brands over the coming months to a specific bidder that is currently in the later stages of contract negotiations over their acquisition.
It is thought that whilst there is a potential for both brands to end up in separate hands, Ford would be more likely to favour a joint bid for both divisions to ensure the continued close relationship of the brands and indeed the employees it affects.
Ford’s move is suggested to part of their wider commitment to refining their corporate structure with a view to improving efficiency and increasing margins and market share in their US based divisions.
The move had been stalled in light of the summer credit crunch, and the volatility in trading markets that could have led to a significant devaluation of the independent business divisions in order to ensure accurate value reflected in any offer.
It is expected now that the ongoing negotiations towards disposing Land Rover and Jaguar will proceed to fruition, allowing Ford to focus on its core interests in the US marketplace and streamline its existing corporate structure.
Ford has already sold off quality brand Aston Martin as part of its present strategy which has seen it also consider the sale of Volvo over the coming months. The disposal of Jaguar and Land Rover are thought to potentially free up a significant capital injection for improving operations in the US, where Ford sees its core operation lying in the future.
