Dax adds almost 1 percent in Frankfurt

Dax adds almost 1 percent in Frankfurt

European markets saw gains on Tuesday. The FTSE Eurofirst 300 added 0.62 percent to 1,548.76. The IBEX was 0.3 percent higher to 14,590.1 in Madrid, while the Paris CAC-40 gained 0.38 percent to 5,672.72 and Frankfurt’s Dax was up 0.96 percent to 7,721.77. Banks were higher on the session, as were the chemicals sector, properties groups, semiconductors, healthcare groups and the oil sector. Carmakers and utilities, however, saw declines.

In London the FTSE 100 gained 0.98 percent to 6,376.8 while the FTSE 250 was 1.34 percent higher to 11,510.8. The oil sector led both the 100 and the 250, while miners also saw gains. The retail sector was mixed, while property-related sectors and drug makers were lower.

Equities markets in the Asia-Pacific region were mixed Tuesday, but mostly lower than higher. India’s Sensex added 0.28 percent to 15,465.4, while in Australia the Sydney Ordinaries gained 0.39 percent to 6,297.1 and the ASX/S&P200 was up 0.41 percent to 6,293.3. Otherwise, markets were lower. The Hang Seng index was 0.08 percent lower to 23,886.07 in Hong Kong, while in Singapore the Straits Times index fell 0.3 percent to 3,376.06. The Kopsi index dropped 0.38 percent to 1,874.74 in South Korea. The Shanghai Composite was down 0.51 percent to 5,294.04, while the Taiex was 0.63 percent lower to 8,922.98 in Taiwan. The biggest mover in the region was the Philippine Stock Exchange index, which was down 1.69 percent to 3,312.3.

Tokyo’s markets also saw declines. The Nikkei 225 fell 0.63 percent to 16,420.47 and the Topix index dropped 0.7 percent to 1,596.74, while the Mothers market was 0.1 percent lower to 733.41.
Utilities were lower in Tokyo, while retailers, the property sector and sea transport all declined.

The New York markets were up in early afternoon trade. At just past 1 p.m. local time the Dow Jones Industrial Average was 0.43 percent higher to 13,415.21, while the Nasdaq Composite ha added 1.2 percent to 2,627.62 and the S&P 500 was up 0.9 percent to 1,4878.2. Carmakers were higher on the session despite poor news about sales. Meanwhile the semiconductors sector and other technology related shares were higher.
