Air China Boasts Record Profits Over Second Quarter

Air China has today announced a tripling of profits over the first two quarters of 2007, according to reports from the region today.

The Chinese airline, owned by the government, has seen its profits skyrocket to around $205 million for the half ended June, compared to just around $70 million this time last year.

The airline has put much of its success down to increasing demand from domestic passengers, and a strong business class sector in recent months.

Despite the increase in the cost of fuel through rising oil prices, the airline has maintained and increased profitability through expanding its reach into new and growing markets, particularly cashing in on the rise in business class customers looking to fly domestically and internationally with the company.

Traffic for the Chinese airline has reportedly grown by around 16% over the last year as the economy continues to grow and develop at the quickest pace of any economy on the planet.

The Chinese economy, having embraced free market economics, has grown at a startling rate over the last few years, increasing output and manufacturing in order to develop and improve the standard of living of its people.

And with growth set to continue over the coming decades, the Chinese national airline is confident of growing its reach even further in the coming years.

Analysts are predicting that the success of Air China is likely to continue over the coming months, particularly with the advent of the Olympic games in Beijing in 2008, which could see passenger numbers rapidly increase around the time of the event and beyond as tourism picks up in the region.

Having transported around 34 million air passengers over the last twelve months, the airline looks set to increase passenger numbers exponentially over the next twelve months as the official partner airline of the Olympic games.
