US bond yields on the rise again
by Elaine Frei
Prices for US Treasury bonds were lower on Friday, and yields grew, on new data showing that the US unemployment rate is steady.
The report revived fears that a new increase in US interest rates could be in the cards.
Two-year Treasury bonds were yielding 4.99 percent, while five-year issues saw yields rise to 5.09 percent.
Prices for ten-year paper dropped $3.12 on a $1,000 note, sending yields up to 5.18 percent, from 5.14 percent yesterday.
Thirty-year bond prices dropped $6.87 for a $1,000 note and yields rose to 5.27 percent after yielding 5.23 percent on Thursday.
