10-year yields down in Asia, Europe, US
by Elaine Frei
Yields on 10-year government bonds fell on Monday. The 10-year Japanese government bond was down to a yield of 1.88 percent, while the 10-year bund dropped 3 basis points to 4.62 percent. Ten-year gilt yields also dropped 3 basis points, to 5.48 percent. Meanwhile, in late afternoon trade in New York, the 10-year US Treasury bond was yielding 5.08 percent, down from 5.14 percent on Friday. The decline in New York was driven by investor worries that troubles in hedge funds with large exposure to the subprime mortgage market could move into the larger financial markets.
