Precious metals prices rise; oil declines

Prices for West Texas Intermediate crude oil for June delivery were down 93 cents to $61 per barrel in early afternoon trade on the New York Mercantile Exchange on Monday. Nymex June gasoline was also lower, down 4 cents to $2.17 per gallon, while Nymex June heating oil had also dropped 4 cents, to $1.80 per gallon. Meanwhile, June natural gas had fallen 21 cents to $7.73 per million British thermal units.
Prices for precious metals were higher during the day. In early afternoon trade in New York, June gold had added 60 cents to $690.30 per troy ounce, while July sliver was 11 cents higher to $13.64 per troy ounce. June platinum jumped $22.10 to $1.350.90 per troy ounce.
In base metals, July copper was 4 cents lower to $3.72 per pound.
